You are possibly aware that European countries are going through a major financial crisis. For those who are not, following video provides a good summary of what is at stake.
After all other options failed, Germans finally said ‘enough is enough’ and brought in bioinformaticians to save them from the financial crisis. No, dear reader, this is not a joke from the Onion. These days, reality can be far more distorted than fake stories.
Today we read in the news – “German Pirate Party Elects 15 Members to Berlin State Parliament”. Being oblivious about German politics, we searched for more information on pirate party, and came up with this – “Sebastian Matthias Nerz (born July 13, 1983) is a German politician and bioinformatician who has been the leader of the Pirate Party Germany since May 2011.” [emphasis mine].
We are glad that young bioinformaticians are selected to high place. We shall put a commentary or two about saving the world, when we take a break from our routine activities.
For those interested in more mundane topics like de Bruijn graphs and transcriptome assemblers, our regular commentary will resume soon. Be prepared for a very active week.
